Hey dude, don't worry about it.And don't stop trying.

The only way social skills get better, is by forcing yourself into
social situations.
Meet people. Lots of people. Do that by joining clubs. I'm sure the
States has lots of clubs from programming, to gaming, book
clubs...whatever.
The other thing you could do, to help socially..is to smile. Yup. That's
it.

Just smile...always have a warm smile when you meet and talk to someone.
Even on the phone when I'm talking I usually have a smile on my face,
and that carries through to your voice.

Being 'social', and communicating and dealing with people is a science.
Actions and their anticipated reactions go like clockwork 90% of the
time in casual social encounters. If it's really a problem for you, then
you can actually take courses in communication and meeting people. Just
like you take a course in programming. It's just a different sort of
programming that comes naturally to some people whether they are more
physically attractive, had an extroverted childhood or just genetically
charismatic, and other people need to work at it. You seem to be one of
those that need to work at it.

So, do not despair, and do NOT make this list your only avenue to the
outside world.
That will start a vicious cycle that shall get you nowhere.
Online communication is no substitute for face to face human
interaction.

It looks terrible on this other person that they did not show up, it
says nothing about you or your worth.
It says something about them and not about you, don't forget that.
If you want, talk to the person and find out what happened, but don't do
it feeling angry or hurt.
Don't even be accusing, you could just in a friendly way go," Hey, so
what happened with Cinema saturday night? The movie was really great
,you missed a good one."
and see where that takes you ^_^

>From your postings to the list, you're an intelligent guy who I am sure
would have a lot to contribute to conversations and social occasions.
So don't let something like this bring you down.

just my two cents.

Cheers! :)

I should just stick to what I know. Machines at least don't lie to me.
All I really wanted was someone to sit with at the movie since Tiff is
still out of town, but I guess that's too much to ask... and I should
know better. Social skills have never been my strong suit. the cf
community seems to be my only connection to the outside world.
