My brother's computer is a mess. Immediately upon boot, it's processor is maxed out at 100%, bringing the PC to a crawl almost immediately. He has the worst possible combination: DSL, no firewall, no AV, and KIDS! Needless to say, they've done some serious damage in a very short amount of time.
I installed and attempted to run Spy Bot Search and Destroy yesterday, but it is never able to successfully finish removing all the spyware it locates. I'm not sure if the machine is simply running out of resources, or if a particular spyware is disrupting the Spy Bot so that it can't do its job (sort of like how some viruses attempt to disarm AV programs?). Halfway through its clean up, it just freezes.
My plan was to clean out the Spy Ware first, then install an AV program and check for viruses. But i can't even get past step one. Any ideas on how to proceed next?
