In my opinion the laptops from alienware are the best bet... the desktop
PCs are a ripoff. My brother-in-law has an alienware PC and was always
dissing those of us who like to custom build our PCS. Well, I went out
and built a an AMD-64 with a nice RAID setup, DVD-RW, CD-ROM, top of the
line everything for about $1000 less. That alone is enough reason to
  DIY.

The machine so far is ROCK solid.
They are thoroughly tested before shipping, including Burn-In
  testing of
  all the components.
They also ship with their own Video Optimisation done so the
  card is
clocked etc. to match the CPU (or at least that is how I
  understand it).

The interior is clean! Everything nicely tucked away and tied
  off, the
CPUs all have extra cooling solutions on them,
there are 3 80mm fans on the back of the case as well. There is
  also the
  additional Alienware video cooling solution,
meaning that you have a greater margin of safety for
  overclocking the
graphics card right out the box.
It even comes with PowerStrip software to allow you to overclock
  to your
  heart's content.

The case itself is solid...it feels like you could sit on it
  (150Lb
person) and it won't even creak.
Everything exudes quality and attention to detail.

Since the parts that they used can be purchased off the shelf
  and
nothing is proprietary, you won't have a problem replacing
  stuff, or
  upgrading when you like.
I urged the GF to opt for a 3 year warranty on parts, so if
  something
does go wrong she will get a replacement right away.

  >From my buddy's experience with his alienware, even though he
  is out of
the states when he called about a Hard disk problem they shipped
  a brand
  new
drive to him even before he sent back his old one, that was a
  year or
two ago. AFAIK he has had no problems since then and the machine
  is
  always on
and always working rendering 3D Art across a network.
