one time I played a doubting thomas type of character. it was fun. no matter
what happened in the game, my character always wrote it off as odd, but
nothing supernatural, until of course it was too late and he walked right up
to something big and nasty and got eaten. i believe it was a Hound of
Tindalos that got him.

Same here, d&d, various strategy games, Starfleet etc.

When we played call of cthulu, I usually ended up having my character
eaten by some nameless thing, just after going insane. This happened
with a depressing regularity.
