The University of Twente did a survey of the visitors of their website. Initially it showed 95 % IE, then they started to use advanced _javascript_ to explore the true capabilities of browsers. They discovered that IE could not be more then 85 % because the rest had support for properties that were not present in IE. They eventually concluded that about 5 % of the visitors used Opera with a custom "MSIE" browser string, and another 5 % used some Gecko browser with "MSIE" in the browser string.
