Amazingly enough...
nothing happened.
The hurricane passed...I believe it hit....but we got no damage.
Category 3.
I'm still trying to understand it, but apparently we were amazingly
lucky.
THe night isn't over yet though, and I'm looking at a few suggestions
that there
are "backlashes" from the tail end of the storm that could be severe,
but so far things are quiet.
It was terribly overcast and gray for the entire day, and it rained
sporadically, but we did not even see the predicted flooding
in Trinidad which we were supposed to. About 176 houses were damaged in
Tobago (population of about 50,000 people), but no
loss of life reported...no structural or property damage of note at
hotels, but we'll get a better idea in the morning.
The Doubles vendors were out around the town...one fast food outlet
opened..people were on the roads.
I abandoned the glass walled apartment where I'm staying for the
security of a concrete house within a valley at my parent's...
And then ended up driving back to the apartment this afternoon after we
were downgraded from Hurricane to Tropical Storm without incident.
Was it prayers? Chance? who knows.
But we are greateful that things did not turn out any worse.
