"Liberal media" is a phrase that dates back to the Nixon
administration and is a product of overly narrow thinking. When the
media went after Clinton for Monica, was it because they were liberal?
Granted that you may not think they did so as much as they should
have, but they did, and they did it because the guy was in office and
he was wrong.

The media aren't perfect -- they are people. As a former freelancer
for the Washington Post, I have been "the media." The media have
biases and opinions like everyone else. Ideally they do not let them
affect their reporting, but in these days of journalists as
entertainers this is less and less true, sure.

But where the mainstream media -- ABC news for example -- primarily
fall down is not so much ideological bias as in the way they pervert
what is in fact news. They are always looking for scandal and thus by
definition always in opposition to whoever is in power. Controversy
trumps substance every time. And so you have swift boats and Monica
and Cheney's daughter rather than substantive analysis of actual
changes that actually affect us.

That being said, I did not look into your link too much but it reads
rather like a guest editorial. I suspect it was written by someone
like William Safire. Some of its points are well-taken, but I don't
think it really looks deep enough.

Personally, I don't really care whether Clarke is a liar or whether we
call it a civil union. Wag the dog, I say. I want to know why 75% of
the drugs prescribed for children have not been tested on children,
and why it is legal to market an antidepressant that has been
demonstrated to be ineffective. That's what I am mad about. I'd really
like to be able to breathe the air down in the valley. There is this
strange white haze that covers the city every morning when I come down
off the mesa.

What I think is important  -- how about that my local school stinks? I
may be able to offer my kids an alternative, but what about all of the
other very decent little kids in my neighborhood? And Bush wraps
himself up in the flag and says no child is left behind, and the media
buys into it, every time.

Gaaa.

This is too funny. The liberal media comes out and
admits there biased and you argue with them. This
isn't Fox news, Rush talking or Savage. It's ABC news.
