they are counting on us to not pay attention. I agree.

Factoid - buried in the story I just posted. Thirty billion a month for Iraq.

Thirty billion a month.

But in addition to that sinkhole is the bigger more long-term morass
of Social Security, I agree. When the boomers start retiring the
bubble will have to burst. It is a long-time pet peeve of mine that
the poor pay proportionately more Social Security taxes and there is
no means test for benefits.

No - we are fighting for to see if a experiment works.

The US has a Middle East presence for one reason: to ensure a stable
oil futures price and a stable supply.  We can't really do that,
however, without supporting dictators, Kings, or terrorists, so the
Bush team came up with an idea.

The theorized that the only reason we have to maintain a military
presence is because there's not stable governments there.  There's no
stable governements there because there are no Muslim democracies
(except Turkey but ignore that).  So they thought why not create a
democracy and thus secure oil without need for a military presence?

Iraq, being the most politically feasible to invade, was the key they
figured.  Zip in, clear out the Baathists, put the match to democracy,
and watch the magic!  BING!  End to unstable oil, end to terrorism.

The problem is the experiment is failing and now they can't admit that
is was an experiment so the say how safe we are.

"Vote for me or die!"  that's the Bush slogan.

The only problem is, dead US soldiers don't prevent a couple of
Syrians or Saudis from hopping a place to America and setting off a
assembled bomb in the inflight lav.  But, Mr. Bush figures, Americans
are too stupid to figure that out.  He may be
right.________________________________
