Its funny you should mention this, because i saw a commercial last night for a bacteria-resistant dish sponge. Supposedly some natural composition of the sponge makes it much harder for bacteria to grow on it.

I dont remember the exact product that was advertised, but a quick and dirty google search rendered this:
