I'd love to be able to suggest using CSS with a media type of
"handheld". But PDAs and phones that support that are sparse. Without
that, you're left with the old tricks of using a different template
just like you might do for a printer-friendly page.

I would try to avoid tables as much as possible, and where you do use
them make sure they aren't a fixed-width. Handheld devices have a wide
variance in resolutions from some Nokia screens being 128x128 or
176x208 to current/older PocketPC screens being 240x320 with newer
models supporting 480x640. Some devices, like the latest PocketPC OS,
even support switching to landscape mode for browsing to get a little
more width.
