That fire is a natural part of a healthy forest and if man did not interfere by putting out the smaller natural fires that would clear out dead trees and undergrowth making room for normal growth and rebirth, these super fires that are so destructive would not happen that often.
The trouble is not in true wilderness areas where these natural fires are usually allowed to do their job, but in developed fringe zones where people have built communities amongst the trees. There neither natural fires nor proper clearing of combustible material occur as they should thus turning these places into tinder boxes just waiting to go up in an inferno.
