I haven't really been involved at all in any of the political
discussion. I have my beliefs, you have yours, others have theirs. I
don't generally care to try and discuss them, as the discussions too
easily turn to arguments (as we've all seen here) :)
But I'd like to try and point out that Dana was posting what was
obviously a joke. There's jokes about Bush...there's jokes about
Kerry...there are jokes about every politician that has ever been in
(or run for) office.
This list has seen its share of jokes (be it in the form of a joke, a
web site, an image, a flash movie, etc) that I believe have poked fun
at republicans, democrats, conservatives, liberals, and Buddy Ebsen.
For whatever it's worth, while I haven't participated in any of the
political 'discussions' here, I've read many of them. And I've always
been rather impressed at your conviction to stand up for your beliefs
over and over, in the face of what is obviously the majority here that
do not share your beliefs. I haven't always agreed with everything
you've said (nor have I agreed with anything those 'debating' you have
said), but I've always admired your willingness to go to battle for
what you believe.
But in this case, I have to say that I think you went a bit over the
top. Had somebody posted a similar joke that poked fun at Kerry, I
don't think you would have seen it as 'hate'.
Yes, you're 'allowed' to express your right to free speech. I'm not
trying to take that away from you in this instance (or any other).
But I think (hope) if you step back a few paces and look at this
thread as objectively as possible, you'll realize that you may have
over reacted to what was a obviously (to me, at least) a simple joke.
