concept (although I do wish there was a "definitive" version).
"Mary Shelly's Frankenstein" was more like the book that any other to be
sure but stil did a lot of things its own way. It's always amazed me that
the sum of all the "Frankenstein" movies together, in total, actually get
close to the book. Each movie tends to focus on certain aspects left alone
by the others.
One of the biggest surprises for me was how close "Roger Corman's
Frankenstein" was to the book in many respects (for all that it featured a
talking car). It featured many aspects of the book left out of all other
interpretations. They also had the great gimmick that the monster's
eyeballs themselves had stitching across them. Really cheap effect, but oh
so very effective. ;^)
Although not related to the original I always thought that "The Bride" was
also a good story on the theme. I was also pleasantly surprised by Wil
Wheaton (yeah, go figure) in the old sci-fi channel original "Mr Stitch".

USA Network is showing their original movie Frankenstein tonight. I'd
copy/paste the description, but TV Guide appears to use Flash for
that. Ugh. Well they give it 4 stars, which if you watch how they
review is pretty damned impressive. It's based in New Orleans,
features crazed scientists, manufactured humans, and Parker Posey.
What else could you possibly watch?
It's on in about an hour, at least for Eastern/Central.
And if you can't stomach an outright hacking of the concept and prefer
something closer to the original, at the same time Mary Shelley's
Frankenstein starring Kenneth Branaugh is showing on TMCX.
