For example, in a corporation nobody above VP gets fired; they leave
"to pursue other opportunities." In the military, Generals retire.
I was contrasting the "Shinseki retired" with the "General Clark was
fired" argument many neo-cons made when Mr. Clark was a rising star.
Technically Mr. Clark retired, but if you read the circumstances you
get the impression his services were no longer desired.
I think the same is true with Mr. Shinseki: technically he retired,
but in reality "[his] services were no longer needed."
