Interesting :) I had not realized that I was making that assumption,
but I am, aren't I? I am several generations away from Ireland so I
probably should not speak for those who live there.

But here is what I can tell you. My father, who was born in Scotland
of an Irish family, used to tell me that he immigrated because his
choices in Scotland were limited to coal mining or joining the British
army and fighting his own in Northern Ireland. He became a journalist
in Canada, and yes, he had the Irish gift of a good tale, but he did
feel pretty strongly about that. So I'd think that 1630 probably does
matter, still.
