Yepper. I plan to put in gajillions of fraudulent registrations.
That's why one of the registrations I took yesterday will have have to
be thrown out before making it to the county clerks office... they
have been on for months now about that (one, repeat, one) 13-year-old
kid who told someone he was 18.
The ancient Indian homeless guy I was trying to register yesterday
failed to check the box saying he was over 18, although he wrote down
a birthdate indicating he was considerably older. But because of the
hostile environment in the local government we can't fill in any part
of the forms ourselves. So unless I can locate this homeless guy by
Oct 5, he will not be registered.
Here is the *real* issue:
"One organization alone, the Association of Community Organizations
for Reform Now, took out 25,000 blank registration forms for its voter
sign-up drive."
In a city where the avowed policy of the local government is to reduce
services for poor and homeless people in hopes they will move
elsewhere, this is very bad news for the status quo.
As for the multiple registrations in the same name... it might not
happen if they could get it together to mail the voter registration
cards out :) If I had not received mine, I would register again too,
and it would be just too bad if the county clerk's office didn't like
it :)
By the way, I promised news from the front. I would say that the
people I am talking to divide rather neatly by social class. Middle
class and above is 100% registered. Poor people are about evenly
divided between those who are not going to vote as a political
statement and those who are *going* to vote as a political statement.
Party affiliations chosed are about evenly split between Republicans,
Democrats and Green/Independents, no surprise in a state that was won
by 236 votes in the last election. I registered several Republicans
yesterday, Sam, and look who is trying to keep that happening :)
A lot of people are really angry. A lot, a LOT, of new voters. I am
curious as to what this means in terms of the likely voter tallies.
