God i still hate snopes. Something about them just rubs me the wrong way.

"Hi we're snopes! We want to be the end all be all for helping people
figure out if something is a myth." Then you get the people who
whenever they read something run right to snopes to check if god err
snopes says its untrue. I guess it's an irrational pet peeve. Not
really about anyone here one of my damn friends does it way more then
anyone here. It seems like as anyone talks to him he cross checks it
with snopes for their seal of approval.

Argh.

I think you should be more upset with your friend(s) then with Snopes.  This is from their FAQ page, http://www.snopes.com/info/faq.asp.

<quote author="Snopes">
Q: How do I know the information you've presented is accurate?

A: We don't expect anyone to accept us as the ultimate authority on any topic, which is why our site's name indicates that it contains reference pages. Unlike the plethora of anonymous individuals who create and send the unsigned, unsourced e-mail messages that are forwarded all over the Internet, we show our work. The research materials we've used in the preparation of any particular page are listed in the bibliography displayed at the bottom of that page so that readers who wish to verify the validity of our information may check those sources for themselves.

You may also want to check out their Lost Legends page, http://www.snopes.com/lost/lost.htm.  Or better yet, have your friend(s) check it out.  It might just catch them not thinking for themselves.  Something Snopes always strives against.  That's what I appreciate about them.  They don't say they are the "end all, be all."  But they show their work and explain their logic, something many other places and people do not.

Claim:   Common sense dictates that you should never fully rely upon someone else to do fact checking for you. But who has time for common sense?

Origins:   If you're reading this page, chances are you're here because something about one or all of the entries in The Repository Of Lost Legends (TROLL) section of this site struck you as a tadge suspect, if not downright wrong.

If any or all of the stories in this section caused your internal clue phone to ring, we hope you didn't let the answering machine take the call. That niggling little voice of common sense whispering to you in the background was right - there was something wrong with what you read.

You've just had an encounter[sic] with False Authority Syndrome.

Everything in this section is a spoof. ...
