Well, I got into the whole pro-life/pro-choice debate this weekend with some friends. Even though the pro-life side wanted government legislation, we got them agreeing that it really was a moral choice and that ideally the government shouldn't be making moral choices for us. But what gets me was their biggest argument of "I don't want my tax dollars going to fund abortions".
Okay, since when have we really ever had any say in where our tax dollars go? I can think of a lot of things that I don't want my tax dollars going towards. So just in case next year a list of items with checkboxes is included with my tax form: 1.) Missile defense - Let's get a system that works more than 25% before we deploy it. 2.) Faith based initiatives - Why should I have to fund any other faith than my own. Afterall, these programs are just going to produce more people to sit on school book boards that erase science from biology. 3.) Senator/Representative/Presidential raises - C'mon are these people not making enough already? 4.) Nuclear Bombs - These devices are not being created for precision military strikes, the're for the wholesale slaughter of men/women/children/dogs/cats/goats/etc. Not so unlike the currently out of vogue terrorists. 5.) Presidential election campaigns - If big business is going to the fund the major part of it, might as well let them finance it all. It's not like we get any influence from our tax dollars. 6.) Iraq - Why should they have better schools than us? 7.) Right Wing Talk Show Wackos - Okay, we may not be funding them, but we're giving them the airwaves to broadcast on. They need to be charged for them. 8.) Halliburton - Of course, they'll probably be contracted to revamp the tax form....on a no bid basis of course. I know I have more, but those are the first on my head right now.
