Legacy typically means that you had a relative that went to the school
so you get a pass on other requirements.  This also applies to rich
kids, or kids with influential parents.  This is because the school
figures the kid will go on to be handed some big job.  Then their bio
will list the school, thus improving the school's reputation and
adding to its donor base.

For example, the U of Chicago GSB just built a new campus with
donations from alumni.  The average alum in the New York area donated
$5 million; not bad.

In any event, legacies usually can't compete with the mental
horsepower of the real students, not do they usually have the drive
to, so they languish along with Cs.  The students who earned their way
in get As - that's why they got in!
