I'm sure you not far off the mark. However, Mr. Bush made his bed and now he has to sleep in it. All the talk of "bridge building" and "crossing the aisle" is disingenuous. Effectively all it means is this, "So, we disagreed last time about X issue and I snubbed you. Did you change your mind or should I snub you again?" It reminds me of Seinfeld where Castanza is selling computers, calls a random guy, and yells into the phone, "HEY! You wanna buy a computa? ... Why not?" and then he hangs up.
