I will often still make popcorn on the stove, in a pot.

Although measurements will vary based on the size of your pot; I use 1/2 
cup of oil and 2 cups of popcorn.  Heat the oil w/ a few kernels in 
it.  Wait for those kernels to pop; then add the rest.  Cover, and shake 
back and forth (to prevent burning on the bottom) until everything is popped.

  I like it much better than microwave popping corn and air popped popping 
corn.

  I remember my dad had a "device" of some sort to make popcorn in our 
fireplace.  Kind of like a metal basket with a handle on it, that he stuck 
into the flames.  That was good stuff.
