Wow. Pretty cool! I've seen several exhibits of Da Vinci's work and they are indeed amazing. As the article suggest though, many of them are so incomplete in their description of the workings that it would be near impossible to actually build the item without understanding what he was thinking. It's pretty cool that this guy has dug in deeply enough to possibly figure some of it out.
