I can do that now with all my games without Steam. Just install from the CD on a second computer and start playing. No need to muck with an online service to authenticate or anything. > 2 - I haven't confirmed it, but I think you don't need to run the game from > the CD once Steam is all set up. Alcohol120%, DemonTools, Nero Image Drive, Virtual CD, etc. I don't use my CDs at all now. > 3 - Game downloads, automatic updates, bugfixes, anti-cheating etc. From a > developer's and end-user standpoint, I'd be pretty estatic for this > feature/ability. (I still want to the DVD and manual though, so I'll always > buy the packaged product.) 1. That is possible without the additional crap of Steam locking people out of playing the game. 2. Anti-Cheating is a moot point in a single-player game. 3. Developers are becoming too dependent on "release now, bugfix later" and have been releasing games that are known to be buggy just to make sales. The gaming community is getting to the point where they not only accept this, but expect it and are willing to pay for games they know will have bugs with the hope that the developer will fix them eventually. 4. Most updates lately have been to disable virtual CD tools which are entirely legal. -Kevin ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~| Special thanks to the CF Community Suite Gold Sponsor - CFHosting.net http://www.cfhosting.net Message: http://www.houseoffusion.com/lists.cfm/link=i:5:135923 Archives: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/threads.cfm/5 Subscription: http://www.houseoffusion.com/lists.cfm/link=s:5 Unsubscribe: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/unsubscribe.cfm?user=89.70.5 Donations & Support: http://www.houseoffusion.com/tiny.cfm/54
