Is it true that he lives in a very expensive house? What justifications can
he give to taking money from some rather poor people and lavishing it on
his home and other things?

Another guy did this. That guy was Jimmy Swaggart. I listen to his program
(as a non believer in him being a man of God) back in the 70s. I was
amazed at his speaking skills in trying to cajole money out of people. He
extolled
the poor to give because their money was needed for the works of God.

Around the time I read an article, maybe in the New York Times, about the
$85,000
homes, big salaries and Cadillacs that he and his son had from his
organization. His
wife also got a salary and a Cadillac. Back then an $85,000 house was
considered to
be a good middle class home in most surburbs near major cities. The
Swaggarts live
in a part of the deep south in which an $85,000 home now might be considered a
very good middle class home in 2001. I am sure that back then $20,000
would have
gotten a very good home there.

Anyway I was glad when it was revealed that this man of God whom I heard
dennounce
all forms of pre married sex as being sinful had been caught in the room with a
professional evening lady. It was not stated that he had sex with
her. Just with himself. To
me he was worse than any couple shacking up. I would hate to shake hands
with him.

The real bad thing is that Swaggart has made a big come back. At least in the
south. Two people who watch him were very dismissive of his previous "sin"
when I
expressed surprise that he was on TV preaching and hawking the best
commentaries
on some books of the Bible. I thought that the prices were rather high.

It is to be expected that Falwell would be abusing the contributions given
to his
organization. Even though he is not doing what Swaggart did or may still
be doing I still do
not want to shake hands with him.
