I just saw an ITN news report that had an embedded reporter with a platoon of Marines - it was riveting. The platoon was pinned down on a low roof top - they were taking fire from 2 directions. They were trying to move to get out, but then one Marine was hit; it looked like he was dead because he wasn't moving. The rest of the Marines continued firing, trying to get cover somehow while the radio man called in tanks and reinforcements. Some more Marines showed up and took out one of the fire positions and then took the wounded man away in their track. The pinned down platoon moved across the street and went up to the roof. The commander laid out the plan: they would put down 5 seconds of suppressive fire while a missile spotter looked to see where the fire was coming from. "FIRE!", all of the Marines laid down the fire and the spotter got his mark while bullets exploded all around them. They took cover and then popped up again to let the missileman fire. There was no return fire after that. They crossed the street and began clearing each room of the house. They found 5 bodies. Their papers indicated they were from a neighboring town. I've seen the full video and I don't blame the Marine one bit. From what I saw the fire actually aroused another militant to start yelling that he had information. As far as I saw they didn't shoot him.
