All of the soldier I hear of being called back up are still serving
their obligation in the IRR. I'm done with my obligation so I am not
worrying too much. Also, my specialty has been made obsolete with the
artillery upgrades of the late 90s.

Subject: RE: Pilot, 47, Recalled For Active Duty

There is a huge problem. I joined a three days before my 19th birthday.
I served in the Marines on active duty until I was 25. Back then (in
the old days) we only had a 6 year comitment usually 3 active 3 inactive
reserves or 4 and 2.

I was enlisted not an officer. But don't you think kids are seeing us
old farts getting called back up and saying to themselves why in the
hell I would I join the military dedicate 8 years of my life only to be
called back up 15 or 20 years down the road.

When our military personell complete their obligation they should be
able to move forward without ever worrying about being called back up.
There aren't enough ever shrinking benefits for our men and women to
have to concern themselves with the idea of being called up down the
road.

THey have dedicated their time and should be thanked and left alone.
Otherwise we take the risk when you are 18 only to be worried about
being called up again in 15 years after you have a family, career etc..
