Well... it sort of. ;^) I read in Sci Am last month (maybe) that epic poetry (Greek Epic poetry in particular) when heard in meter actually optimized heartbeat-to-breath ratio and raised the levels of certain neuro-transmitters. In short the long readings placed the listeners into a mild, pleasurable trance-like state. The preliminary findings indicate that this state is extremely "healthy" in that pulmonary system is working at best efficiency, stress is greatly reduced and so forth. I believe the study was done in Germany... but I can't remember exactly.
