I've come to the conclusion I have a very special talent! That is the talent to find with worst possible code base to work with. I recently accepted a position as a Sr. Software Engineer to port an off the shelf product to a multi tenant hosted environment. The original company that developed the product was purchased and the new company doesn't know much about coldfusion except that they dont like it. The companies core apps aer built in ASP.Net. The only saving grace may be that I will eentually get to rewrite the app in C#.Net.
Any way I havent seen this much spaghetti since the Sopranos! Jeez the code is brutal. There are comments in the code like "this code is here but we dont know why - doesnt seem to work anywhere else" and "the code that used to be has been moved". I have a list of pet peeves when it comes to coding and they managed to hit almost all of them. The good news is the the original developers are only available for consultation for a couple more weeks. My first task to get this beast running is to install it on a server locally and get it running. The new company hasn't recieved any of the CFServer softare from the old company yet (they may not even be able to find it) and the installation guide for the product requires the applications installation CD, which btw no longer exists. Is it bad practice to quit your second day on the job? Ok I'm done crying now!
