They *support* it. But if I mail mayself somethign from my gmail address to the same gmail address -- the point being to make it available to myself on another computer -- there is no smtp computer in this story. Yet the failure message I got said that the reason for the failure was that no smtp connection was detected. That's what I was mumbling about.
