That was the last big tsunami before this one, it only killed - thankfully - just over 100 people but that was probably due to fact its not as densely populated as Asia.

It is going to cause serious damage if you do that in New York harbour, but then it will be a shock wave and not a tidal wave because there isn't enough water there for a tidal wave.
