I never clocked in at a different rate when doing side work. (Denny's
Annapolis 12 or 13 years ago).

I personally tip. What doesn't make sense to me is the idea of a tip
as a percentage. At the local diner I usually tip a dollar unless this
makes the tip less than 15 percent. If I am only having coffee or soup
or somethign else inexpensive I leave the change and take the bills
unless this results in an unacceptably small tip ie less than 15%. If
I am exceptionally broke but don't feel like cooking I tell my
waitress so she doesn't wonder what she did wrong. Then, at Christmas,
everybody got one large tip, ie $5 on a $3.99 breakfast. The waitress
who let me use her cell phone a couple times got $10. I am now back to
scheduled programming.

Places where I don't eat all the time I usually tip 20% on general principles.
