That describes me to a 'T'.  My father is a mechanic and a jack of all 
trades, so growing up in my house, you learned a lot about a lot of 
different things.  I think that this type of upbringing made me the same 
way.  I just get the need to tinker around with stuff, build things, fix 
stuff, etc.  My wife sometimes thinks I am crazy.  This morning, I was 
finishing up my 4 poster doggie bed at 7AM, cause I just couldn't leave it 
alone.

While woodworking isn't my strongest suit, it is really a great way to burn 
off some creativity.  And, when you're done, if it sucks, all you have 
wasted is the cost of lumber.  But, you learn from your mistakes, and it 
makes you better in the long run, so it isn't a waste of time, either.

Who says geeks can't be functional too?  :)
