I am very familiar with Magic, but seeing as I don't know where the
Leeds/Yorkshire area is, I am probably not close to it. Magic Online is a
reasonable alternative if you're looking to become a competitive player, but
yea if you're looking to play as just something fun to do with friends, then
yea it really is no substitute.

You way mant to try Magic related messageboards (www.mtgnews.com,
www.mtgsalvation.com, wizard's site:
http://boards1.wizards.com/forumdisplay.php?f=131) to find a playgroup.

Otherwise, if you can get on Magic online, you may be able to meet people on
there that are from your area.

In my opinion though, the best way to get into a playgroup would be to meet
people at the local store, where you can tell much easier if the people are
going to be people you'd like to play with in the future. Friday Night Magic
(FNM) is a relatively casual and fun place to start.

I'm fortunate enough to live in Madison, which has a very active Magic scene.
I can pretty much find a group ready to draft any night of the week, and
Madison is also the premeire city for 5-color (www.5-color.com). We always
have a strong representation at tournaments in the twin cities and Chicago
also.

Good luck finding a group. (You can't convince you other friends to start
playing?) It really is the best game I could imagine. I've been playing for 8
years and know that I'll never get sick of it.
