There was that Irish lass, last year I think, maybe '03, riled Bush up...but alas, not an American. American journalists and their editors are concerned about access, and quite frankly, the Bush Administration has been very very good at projecting an "ask the right question or we'll boot your ass out" attitude to the press corps. And the press is taking it right in the butt. sorry to go there, but that is what is happening. the BA and its press corps buddies have also been very good about characterizing bloggers as left-wing nutjob conspiracy theorists. Again its about the access. The press isn't going to disagree for fear of not being able to be "inside." To an extent, all Presidents have enjoyed a certain amount of leeway from the press corps, but with the BA it has become standard to strike fear into their hearts and prevent real reporting.
