Now now guys, not that kind of wood :P

Since we have a few handy people on the list I thought you might enjoy
this one.

I want to build a great big work bench in the garage. 8 feet long or so,
big work area, shelves up the wall, with peg board to hang stuff on,
etc. But I'm cheap. And I don't want to pay a lot for the wood to make
it.

We happen to be doing work for a guy that puts up fences (he even did
our fence which is how we got the work in the first place) so he was
here today and I asked him if he had any odds and end leftover from jobs
he might want to get rid of so that I can build my bench.

And he did! In fact, he has loads! He was more than willing to drop off
a load of 2x4's and whatnot's the next time he comes over, and for
nothing! He says he does it for people all the time. He more often than
not has wood left over from jobs all the time.

SO - the moral of this story is:

Contact your local builders and carpenters and fence guys the next time
you need a bunch of 2x4's or regular old lumber for a project. If you
don't mind it having rough edges or different widths or even nail holes,
then why pay for a bunch of wood that would normally go to waste in a
garbage pit somewhere?

The worst anyone can say is no :)

Cheers,
Erika
