In 8th grade, the social studies teacher used to be the detention monitor
and those of us in detention had to learn the I have a dream speech and
recite it back to the others, out loud, without using paper or note cards,
before we could leave to go home. We did it in parts but I have to say, by
June of that year, I had memorized that speech forwards and backwards and in
German, Italian, French, and Spanish! LOL

Truly a great speech. That teacher actually taught more to students in
detention than during the daily 40 minute classes.
