Regardless of the No- Fly zones the Kurds were slaughtered by Sadam and his
goons. I fmemory serves me correctly Sadam attacked with tanks and it was no
contest.

Wow, from reading this it sounds like the Kurds bounced back very well.

Also, the article mentions the following:

"In the wake of the 1991 Gulf War that drove Iraqi troops out of
Kuwait, the Kurds launched a revolt - protected by U.S. and British
air patrols - that created their autonomous enclave in northern Iraq."

Now for those who may not know, I spent 4 years in the Navy and made
two Med/Middle East cruises. I have friends that were shot at by
Iraqis (both SAM and other aircraft) while we spent 10 years
protecting the North and South No-Fly zones. Am I understanding the
position correctly to say that we "let the Kurds down" by simply
covering the no-fly zone and not sending in troops or are you saying
that the No-Fly zone protection was incompetent or inefficent?

Hatton
