loved sixth sense...i saw unbreakable in the theater and hated it. absolutely hated it. then when the dvd came out i read a few people talking about it on alt.rec.dvd and wanted to give it another shot. i watched it again as the first part of a trilogy, and enjoyed it a lot more. i've since seen it a few more times and appreciated it a bit more each time.
didn't care much for signs the first time i saw it. but again, after watching it a couple more times, i came to appreciate it more and more each time. took me a while to realize that it wasn't a movie about aliens or crop circles...but a movie about faith, and one man's loss (and re-claiming) of that faith. watching it from that perspective (which, I suppose is just one possible perspective seeing as how it's all subjective), I enjoyed it a LOT more. haven't seen the village yet (so i've skipped over most of the messages in this post). have heard enough bad things about it that maybe it's worth a rental, seeing as how my expectations are now pretty low. but for the most part, it seems that (with the exception of sixth sense), I have to see his movies a few times to really come to appreciate them.
