The intuition is exactly what I am going by. Like the story of King Solomon, I 
try to turn the question around, and see how it feels.

Scholarship for woman of Latino origin.
Scholarship for man of Anglo-Saxon origin.

The second one makes me a little uneasy. But I am OK with it. I'd rather it be 
(in either case) more cultural in nature:

Scholarship for woman of Mayan origin.
Scholarship for man of Celtic origin.

Or even more so:

Scholarship for person who creates best native Toltec dress with story in 
symbols.
Scholarship for person who writes best original poem in Gaelic or who wins the 
local Highland games.


If the offer would throw up red flags (or white hoods) if offered to a white 
male, then it should be thought about twice.
