So bottom line is that while it's a good idea, it'll cost something out of pocket. :(
Well, you can test all year long with the built in SMS server of Blackstone without it costing a dime, but then only you will ever be able to send and/or receive messages using the SMS device simulator included in Blackstone. But if you ever want others to access the technology, then you will need a contract with a SMS provider, just like you can't server your website to anybody but yourself with somekind of website and/or bandwidth provider. Now my understanding from the MAX presentaion is that the contracts are not that expensive a couple hundred dollars a year for thousands and thousands of messages a month, but I have not yet explored actually pricing. But yes, it will cost something out of pocket! The pricing structure was presented as a deteriant to SMS spamming. Any potential spammer will have to pay something to send each and every message. Maybe just a faction of a penny, but that adds up if one is trying to send a few million messages. Now, I'm sure there will be some unsoliceted SMS messages. Postage rates has not stopped junk mail from appearing in my postal mail box. But it should hopefully not reach the epidemic preportaions of e-mail. PS: If and when one shops arround for a service provider, the providers are going to want proof that the application one plans to implement is not going to cause problems with their system. So, your application should be built and tested first. Macromedia has apparently laid the ground work by getting Blackstone pre-approve with at least ATT (IIRC) as of last years MAX conference. -------------- Ian Skinner Web Programmer BloodSource www.BloodSource.org Sacramento, CA "C code.
