But at some point assumptions have to be made. When should a child be exposed to death? "Sesame Street" made that (incredibly controversial) decision decades ago. These shows are not just about abcs and 123s - they attempt to cover the things important to curious children. That being said I would also recommend (as many of the "Cable in the Classroom" shows do) that each show be preceded by a short written or verbal announcement describing briefly to parents what topics the show will be covering. I agree that Parents need to make the choice - but how is preventing the show from being aired allowing a choice? I personally will make a point of watching this episode with my son on GBH - that's my choice. But that choice has been eliminated for millions of other parents.
