I've been a bearded man for about 15 years - the itching does go away. When you're essentially half-monkey you have to live with a beard or shave twice a day. I can grow a full beard in about 4 or 5 days. It's not much of a skill but it's what I got.
One thing I never could stand is cheek hair... so I shave my cheeks. It may look a little odd, but so be it.
