Shut up! Shut your big dumb stupid mouth! You big dumb stupid mouth
talker!! ;^)

... um, I really think that DS9 was some of the best sci-fi on TV and
definitely the best "Trek". I've just finished watching all of the second
season on DVD and am starting the third.

Give me a show based on characters rather than events any day. When DS9
ended there were literally dozens of interconnected, completely fleshed out
characters. Characters grew naturally and organically in realistic
directions.

The characters had no ridiculous mandate to "always like one another" and
some of the closest friendships on the series grew slowly from utter
contempt. Watching Jake grow up on the show and aspire to be a writer
seemed so much better than watching Wesley crushing driving a starship at
age 13.

Personally the best Sci-Fi on television (to me) was "Farscape" hands down.
"Firefly was definitely on the way however. Again, both of these shows
tended to focus much more on the characters. With "Farscape" (and DS9) you
never knew who would become a major recurring player: it was so much more
fun to watch when you knew that things might not end up exactly as they
started out.

"Stargate SG1" has shown some of that growth. It's a really different kind
of series in general tho'. "Babylon 5" definitely did it well (although it
took a while). This kind of storytelling is actually pretty common in Anime
series (Neon Genesis for example).

As for "Enterprise" I was actually enjoying it recently after the seemingly
never-ending "Temporal War" storyline died out.
