Another thing to have the tech check (I would hope that they do this as a 
normal service) is to make sure that you don't have a caliper 
grabbing.  Does your car pull to one side or the other when you step on the 
brakes?  Ask the guy who replaces them if one side was worn more than the 
other, this would indicate a different problem.

Another thing to keep in mind when you are replacing them is to have them 
put on the more expensive (and better metal quality) pads and rotors.  It 
really really makes big difference.  The shop might only put on the cheaper 
ones, especially if you are under warranty.  The thought behind that is 
that they will get more money from you in the long run if you have to 
replace the crappy ones once the car is out of warranty.  The recycled 
metal rotors and pads simply don't last the same as the OEM ones.  I do my 
own work on my cars, and always shoot for the higher-middle end replacement 
brake products.  There can be many quality options when picking these.
