If the the US is in a better position than the EU, why isn't the EU
also dependant on Chinese pegging to the dollar? I think that that if
the Yuan floats the EU will instantly spring since they are paying a
large price for the Chinese peg themselves.

Whatever the case, anyone who says they KNOW that the EU is in a
better position or the US is in a better position doesn't know
anything. Global economics is not an exact science so who knows? I
think we can say that the US has an extremely liberal, possibly
irresponsible, spending policy, compared to the EU's more conservative
approach.

> It is hardly a gimmick. Personal accounts create a sense of ownership

How does a "sense of ownership" put money in the bank? It doesn't,
and most experts have said that. Mr. Greenspan favors it because he
is a closet Bush supporter. I think the numbers are something like
this: in 8 years of Clinton, Mr. Greenspan visited the Whitehouse 8
times. In the first year of Bush Mr. Greenspan visted the Whitehouse
32 times.

However, Mr. Greenspan has discovered the same thing that everyone
else who's been watching has: Mr. Bush uses Reagan-like rhetoric to
cover up Rockefeller-like policies.

Mr. Greenspan's support for private accounts is hardly an endorsement
for Mr. Bush's policy as the best policy, just the best of Mr.
Greenspan's choices: Mr. Bush's suggestion or nothing.

But back to your original point:

you think that when the gov't takes your money and tells you how to
manage it, you get a sense of ownership? I get a sense of anger! I
want my money back since I can handle it much better than the gov't.

I say dismantle Social Security and stop taking my money! Further,
let's call "Social Security" what it is: welfare for those too lazy or
stupid to properly save in the first place.

Any taxpayer that doesn't favor handling his/her own money as they see
fit, as opposed to the federal gov't doing it, is a fiscal socialist.
