I remember back in the late 80s when there was big to-do over fast
food containers being made out of styrofoam vs. paper.  Eventually the
fast foods places relented and replaced them with paper.

(BTW, wasn't there a Mc-something-burger that you did the final
assembly on and it came in a double sided styrofoam container?  What
the hell WAS that?)

Anyway I read recently in Scientific American that the energy used to
produce the sterile paper is about 100 times the amount used for
styrofoam and the resulting greenhouse gases are about 10 times more
per year than 100 years worth of styrofoam CFC decay.
