Did anyone else catch the Altovis commercial tonight? (I think it
aired during The Apprentice.) It's basically a pill for improving your
energy levels during the day. I obviously work with computers, so of
course I like stimulants, and it was a very high quality, high
production value commercial that peaked my interest, so I hit up the
website:

http://www.altovis.com/

Hrmm, site looks good, cute little kid on the front, which could only
be upstaged by a cute little puppy. They have a free trial by mail,
hence no doctors visit, so I start snooping around and I find this
page:

http://www.altovis.com/howaltovisworks.html
"The proprietary blend in Altovis consists of a combination of green
tea leaf extract (provides 100 mg caffeine), cordyceps extract
(mycelium), Eleutherococcus senticosus/Panax ginseng standardized
extracts (root), vinpocetine (from vocanga tree seeds), and
octacosanol."

So, it's green tea and ginseng? What the crap is this? Then I find:

http://www.altovis.com/hdp.html
"This means that if you initially receive a 30 day sample, your HDP
shipments will consist of new 30 day cycles delivered approximately 5
days before your current cycle runs out. Your card will be billed the
reduced HDP price of $35 the day your product is shipped."

Huh? You give me a free shipment of pills, then sign my credit card up
the comebacks?

"You may cancel future shipments at any time by calling 1-866-834-1715
or by going to www.askberkeley.com."

And on the Berkeley ("A Name You Can Trust") site is a whole buttload
of other "nutraceuticals": Dromias, Numovil, Nuproxi, Pinadol,
Rogisen, Suvaril, blah, blah blah, blah blah blah blah. And at the
bottom, what else is it, but the good old male enhancement Enzyte!

Poor Americans, with our inadequacies and susceptibility to
advertising which leads to mail order drugs...and the sad thing of all
this is that they gotta be making bank to create and air the ad I saw
tonight.

I wonder at what point the FDA is going to step in on this fleecing of America.

I guess I'll just stick to Adderall. ;-)
