Yes, either way it is too bad and is an object lesson in the wisdom of
making a living will. The fact that reasonable people can see such
very different scenarios here makes it the stuff of tragedy no matter
which point of view you believe.

I have to say that I can totally understand the husband not visiting.
I fell out of contact with a favorite elderly relative when I was in
my twenties because he developed Parkinson's and I had no idea what to
say to him. In retrospect I realize that saying anything at all would
have been preferable, but yes, the husband's wish to walk away is very
understandable. And so, however, is the parents' inability to do so.

Let me say that I sincerely hope that I am wrong and that Terry's
husband, whatever his failings may or may not be, is in fact reporting
the truth when he says she had expressed such a wish.

It would be so much better.
