Well, after 5 days of phoning dell and getting nowhere, I rattled off a long
and heated e-mail to them as I had exhausted pretty much every avenue over
the phone. I'm waiting to see what happens there... I demanded that I get
someone that is based in the UK or Ireland to call me rather than me calling
them although, they'll just get a timetable of events and a thanks very much
but you aren't getting my business type conversation out of me.

In response to Erika, may I just add that demanding things from someone who
is reading from a script and doesn't actually understand the language they
are using outside of that script is a hopeless, hopeless cause. I tested
this out on my last attempt as I already knew it was scripted, I did not
answer their questions correctly, instead I just said non-sensical things...
The responses I got were the standard responses but they basically guessed
what I had answered and chose one of their options apparently randomly...
That IMO is not the way to operate a business.

In an attempt to put this thread back on topic, upto now, the IBM is looking
like the favourite to me and right now although the specs are lower than the
equivalent priced dell machines, my experience with my friends and
colleagues is that the IBM and the Toshiba are the better machines over the
HP. At one of my previous employers, we rolled out over 4000 Toshiba laptops
and we had very few issues with them but for me the perception is that the
IBMs are built like tanks and at the end of the day, I'm gonna run this
thing into the ground so the longer I can prolong the life of the machine,
the better.

So.... if anyone can recommend any particular series of Thinkpad, R, T, X or
G series I'd appreciate it...

Thanks

Paul
