I'd agree with this assessment... although I think also that part of
the problem was that the sequel skipped genres unexpectedly and not in
a good way like Pitch Black and the Chronicles of Riddick. They went
the other way from an action flick to a horror/suspence,
pick-em-off-slowly thing... Plus asside from being horror/suspense
there was a certain "intent to gross-out" (i.e. not horror, just
disgusting) in the sequel that not all horror/suspense films have. And
after all that horror and grossing-out they capped the very end of the
movie off with a very strange sort of 1984-esque scene that at least
to me didn't feel like it was part of the rest of the film.
